About the Carp Ridge Learning Centre Situated on a 190 acre wooded area, CRLC is part of the Carp Ridge EcoWellness Centre. This secluded and eco-friendly facility hosts educational, spiritual, and fitness programs for children, youth, and adult groups. Land use showcases responsible environmental care, nourishes a variety of groups, and can assist in staff development and business objectives. We also exercise alternative methods in protecting our land which we highlight during tours. The building has easy access to scenic walking trails, has an outdoor eating area, and is next door to the Natural Health Clinic and communal kitchen. Download this flyer about day programs at the Learning Centre. If you are interested in leading a program please download and fill out this form and return to the Learning Centre.
The Carp Ridge Learning Centre can be rented by groups and individuals for a variety of functions. It is an educational facility for all ages whose main focus is in promoting wellness concepts, alternative education topics, and skills for living in harmony with the environment. The tranquil country setting offers quick access to the Ottawa metro area, located only 20 minutes from Kanata or Stittsville and 35 minutes from downtown Ottawa. Just outside of Carp village, it is also near Hwy 417, a major traffic artery from the Ottawa area and north through Arnprior. A large, one-room space is wheelchair accessible and accommodates 25-30 people seated comfortably or exercise classes up to 10-12 people. Lighting is balanced between sunny windows and full-spectrum bulbs. There are two separate washrooms with composting toilets, a small kitchen, large blackboard, and a number of audio-visual accessories available to course moderators. The Centre's History The learning centre was formerly the Carp Ridge Community School, which operated as a private elementary facility from the fall of 1998 until summer of 2001. At that time it was temporarily closed due to the illness and subsequent passing of one of its founding members, Michael Willow. Originally designated as 'the schoolhouse' --generously donated by John Sweetnam--it now serves another educational purpose as general workshop and learning space. Our Mission The mission of The Carp Ridge Learning Centre is to teach, model and facilitate healing and sustainability, with emphasis on our local community. The Learning Centre is a place of many opportunities and a hopeful vision for the future based on these core values:
